From: Contact me at:   Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2012 9:42 PM My name is Bill Allen. I discovered your website devoted to the descendants of Conrad Emery. I am not a direct relation, but I am related to Henrietta Allen, the mother of Lester A. Burch, who married Jennie H. Emery. Henrietta was the sister of my g-g-grandfather, and I have devoted a good deal of my genealogy research to her. She kind of disappeared from our family tree until I was able to track her through her three marriages and various moves across the country. Henrietta lead quite a life and I would like to continue my research into her family and descendants.

If at all possible, I would very much like to get in touch with any living Burch family descendants. If you have any information that you could share or could facilitate connecting me to them, I would be very grateful

Thank you so much

I am doing a family tree for a friend who doesn't use a computer. I hope that you can help me in determining if I have the correct connection which would lead to the Conrad Emery line. I have tried several others that came up as suggestions on ancestyry.com but they did not fit. This one seems to if I am correct on the 1870 census I read.

My friends mother was Mary Agnes (Emery) Bernard born 1918 in Portland, Oregon to John Joseph Emery born 1869 Illinois, died 1942 in Portland and Regina May (Morris) Emery born 1882 Pennsylvania, died 1941 in Portland. I found John J. and Regina in the 1920, 1930, and 1940 census in Oregon. I believe I found Regina in an 1880 Philadelphia census with her family.

So far, I have only found a 1870 census that I believe to be the right John Emery. None for 1910, 1900 or 1880. Maybe next time Ancestry makes the Census available for free those will come up. The don't on the library of family search sites.

The 1870, Illinois, Adams, 2wd Quincy census lists:
Emery, Isai (I presume to be Isaiah) age 37, repairing pianos, born in Ohio.
Lizzy, (I presume to be Elizabeth) age 37, born in Illinois
Sanford, age 9
Lillie, age 4
John, age 1
Since I have not been able to follow John Joseph Emery back in time continuously, I can't be sure this is correct but it appears to be the right one.

John and Regina were probably married about 1914 but I have not been able to determine if they married here in Oregon or came out here shortly after marrying. All of there children were born in the Portland Metro area.

I will be glad to share any information that I have with you on this more recent Emery family.

Thank you,

I have been looking for the parents of Mary T. Emery, I have that she m. 13,Oct. 1822 Samuel Merrill in Loudon New Hampshire. That they were both of Gilmanton New Hampshire, Samuel was b. 1800 Gilmanton N.H. New Hampshire his father Paul was b. in Stratham New Hampshire & His Father Enoch was b. in Newbury Massachusetts. But I can not seem to find out anything about Mary T. Emery.

Mary T. Emery & Samuel Merrill ended up in Old Town, Maine. They were the parents of Samuel Jr .who had a dau. Mary Merrill that was the first wife of James Bradford. His second wife was Mame Webber , who was my Grandmother Dorothy Bradford's mother on my mothers side.

I am trying to do this line for Merrill Ray Bradford who I had DNA done on to get our Bradford line straighten out. I Also have on my biological side the Merrill Line.

She was Merrill Ray Bradford's great great grandmother, Mary Merrill was his grandmother, she had ten kids and then died at age 41. He did not know anything about her until I looked in to it. He is a 93 year old retired attorney in Bangor Me.

Can you help ??? - Kenneth Townsend

I am tracking the Emery family backward from Solomon Emery who, circumstantial evidence indicates, was Isaac Emery's son. The extended family consisting of Isaac Emery and son Thomas Emery and son ?Solomon Emery? were in Chenango and/or Otsego County New York in the early 1800's and Cattaraugus county New York from about 1830 to at least 1835. Some Census info lists his birth date about 1776 and his birthplace as New Hampshire; yet other census contradicts this. In the 1890 Emery Genealogy there is an Isaac Emery b. 25 Mar. 1776 who removed to New York and died there who descends as follows: John -> Jonathan -> Stephen -> Stephen -> John ->Isaac.

I am family of Warren Martindale and Lydia Emery. Can you tell me more about them. I all I have for them is a daughter Ida Bell Martendale who married a Charles Elmer Mc Fadden - Georgiajean

My name is Irwin Baker and I am from Glen Head, Long Island, NY. I am researching my family and came across your web site. I have a particular interest in one entry # 4793 which is related to Jennie Emery and Thomas Cole and in particular one of their children Enoch Cole. My gg-grandfather was named Enoch Cole and was born in 1804 in New Hampshire. He is listed in the 1880 census as living in Lewis, NY. Could you please let me know if you have any dates surrounding the Enoch Cole you have listed to see if there is any connection. Thank you, Irwin

Hi , I was just looking up some of my family history on goggle and came across your site. I was wondering about the Daniel Hoyt you; have on here. Did he have any children? The reason I am wondering is because my grandfather was Daniel O'Dell Hoyt from Lake George N.B. Canada and his grandfather was Daniel O'Dell Hoyt too. I know that I do have relations in Massachusetts and I was just wondering if this was of the same decent which you researched? If you could let me know that would be awesome. Thank you. Amy Hoyt

Hi. I am also researching Emery. I have been for years looking for the ancestry of Deacon Joseph Emery b. 1798 ME. He married 29 Mar 1824 to Lydia Bryer in Howland ME. Joseph d. 1 Jun 1868 and Lydia d. 1883 and are both buried in a little Cemetery in Maxfield ME. I have visited the graves. I found on your genealogy #5388 Jotham Emery m. 1792 to Comfort Day b. 1771 d. 1846 Both buried Dixmont ME. There are three children listed born all in Shapleigh ME Joseph 1798, George 1794, and Robert 1797. Do you know if this is the Joseph I am looking for? Will keep my fingers crossed.

old "Reminisce" Magazine with a picture taken in the late 1800's of a Emery Store in Watervliet, N.Y. It was sent in '94/'95 by a Guy Visk in Queensbury, N.Y. saying that Edwin Emery was his wife Joan's Granddfather.

First let me thank you for posting your research on the web - I have only begun exploring the site and plan to send much more time there.

But I want to write asp about my own area of research, to see if you are interested, and will or able to assist me in any way.
br> My connection to the Emery family is through #765 Bodwell Huse (wife Mary Collins). You include in the list of their children a son Isreal (d. unm.). I believe this Israel (Isreal) was my 4th great-grandfather. I have been to the CSL in Hartford and have seen the records which do seem to indicate that he died unmarried, but I believe this to be an error - no further details are given, and I think this is an assumption that was made because he could not be located anywhere in the records, when his parents had in fact removed to Albany co., NY. and taken him with them.

I am nearly 100% certain that he is the Isreal Hues who was in 1810 census in Durham, Greene co., NY married with several children. In. 1790 Bodwell Huse was in Durham (then a part of Freehold, Albany, co., NY.) and there was another male age 16+ in the hh (household) with him and his wife. In 1792, Presbyterian Church Records in Greeneville record the marriage of Isreal Hewis and Abigail Taylor, both of Durham. This Isreal Huse/Hues died in the War of 1812 and I have a land warrant for property in Arkansas that was given by the government to his heirs, including his named son Ira, my 3rd great-grandfather.

I have much more, but will wait to hear form you - in case this is something you don't have time to spend on, which I would completely understand. Bodwell Hughes' daughter, Anna and Rebekah, both followed him to New York. Anna was wife of Samuel Brown, and there is an extensive Brown genealogy. Rebekah's son, William Thomas Howel, married into the Lindsley family and the Lindsleys have a close connection to the family of my Israel/Isreal Huse/Hues.

Two genealogy books on the Hughes family indicate that Bodwell Huse had a brother named Henry Freeman Hughes (or Huse) of New Haven county, Ct. If so, this Henry would be an Emery descendant, although I have never seen evidence of this in print. The authors rely heavily on oral tradition for their accounts of Henry Hughes' ancestry, who they claim was from Newburyport Wales. I think he was from Newpouryport, Ma. If he was the brother of Bodwell Huse, as the book claim, he was undoubtedly named for he grand father Henry Bodwell. If all this is true, Henry would have been a son of Isreal and Ruth Huse, born between sons Israel and Bodwell, probably about the year 1823.

There are two things I'd like to ask you:

1) DO you have any explanation for the 21 year time period between the birth of Isreal and Ruth (Bodwell) Huse's sons Israel (b. 1819) and Bodwell (b. 1841)?

2) Can you put me in touch with any living descendants of Isreal and Ruth (Bodwell) Huse?

Line:
Judy (Wilmot) Davision, Doanld Wilmot, Mabel (White) Wilmot, Lillian (Hughes) White, Isreal Ferris Hughes, Ira Huse, Isreal Huses; then speculation from her Bodwell Huse, Ruth (Bodwell Huse, Bethia (Emery) Bodwell, John Emery, John Emery.

Ira Huse had several sons - descendants of one of those sons still spell the last name HUES to this day. The Spelling HUGHES only began to appear more commonly in the late 1800's in Geauga county, Oh.

Thank You very much for taking the time to look for this. Sincerely -
Judy Davison

Hi, In researching my daughter’s tree I’ve found myself deep the weeds in what looks like possibly a double connection into the EMERY and AVERY Families. Any of this look familiar to you? Here is what I THINK is correct:

    Abigail EMBREE or EMERY
    Richard EVERY

    Joseph EVERY b April 20, 1776 - Ulster County, NY d August 7, 1854 - Woodstock, MI
Margaret ACKER b. Nov 21, 1764, Olive Township, NY d. July 19, 1837 Woodstock, MI

    James SWARTOUT b. November 7, 1795 - Fishkill, NY d. August 20, 1847 MI
    Hannah AVERY b. November 4, 1795 NY, d. August 11, 1874 MI

    James SWARTOUT, b. April 12, 1831 Ulster, NY d. October 8, 1920 – MI
    Katharine KELLEY b. July 23, 1837 - NY d. February 13, 1913 – MI

Frank Swartout, b. Oct 11, 1871 in Jackson County, Michigan

    -------------------

    Abigail EMBREE or EMERY
    Richard EVERY

    Elizabeth WHITMAN b. Feb 26, 1787 d. May 18, 1855 Woodstock, MI
    Reuben EVERY B. Feb 26, 1780 d. Nov 4, 1855 Woodstock, MI

    Angeline AVERY or EVERY, b. June 4, 1815 - Delaware, NY d. September 2, 1877, MI
    Alanson KELLEY January 11, 1815 – NY d. July 19, 1861 MI

    Katharine KELLEY b. July 23, 1837 - NY d. February 13, 1913 – MI
    James SWARTOUT, b. April 12, 1831 Ulster, NY d. October 8, 1920 – MI

Frank Swartout, b. Oct 11, 1871 in Jackson County, Michigan

If the following is correct, then Frank Swartout’s grandmothers (Hannah and Angeline) were cousins and so he was an EMERY & EVERY on both sides. Thanks for any feedback you can provide! – A. Gross

The death record of Hannah M Emery, who married at Wakefield, New Hampshire, 1832 Sep 16, Henry Wiggin, states that she was born at Kennebunk, Maine 1812 Feb 02, daughter of John Emery and Hannah Downing, and that she died at Tamworth, New Hampshire 1885 Sep 07. I was wondering if you could help me with her Emery lineage. I know about Daniel Emery and Hannah Downing, but she doesn't appear to be a child of theirs, although they did marry in 1810. No other children of John Emery and Hannah Downing appear. Thank you for your time and consideration. Jim Scamman

I purchased an antique desk from a family in Lancaster, NJ. Written on the side is the notation “J.R. Emery, Somerville, NJ”. My limited research brought me to a John Rockafeller Emery, but that is as far as I got. Can you provide any information that might help me to learn more? Thank you! Janet M. DeVita
