Was warden of the St. Pauls Church Newburyport, Essex, Ma. He was speaker of the house of Rpresentatives and a senator to the 1st. congress after the adoptionn of the federal constitution. He invested his entire fortune when Washington City was founded and lost it by mismanagement of a buisness agent. At the same time his furniture and library was lost on a vessel between Newbury, Ma. and Washington D.C. and he found himself penniless. Several offices of profit and honor were immediately tendered to him by the government and he accepted the surveyorship of Boston, Ma. He d. 30 May 1817 Boston, Suffolk, Ma. and buried St. Pails Burial Ground Newburyport, Essex, Ma.
